Neon Angel A Memoir of a Runaway: The Book Everyones Talking About
Okay, so, I got my hands on this book, "Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway". It's by Cherie Currie, who was the lead singer for this all-girl rock band, The Runaways, back in the '70s. I started reading it this one morning, thinking it would just be another one of those rock star stories, you know?
Flipping through the pages, I got sucked in right away. This wasn't just some fluff piece, this was raw. She starts off talking about her early life, nothing too crazy, kind of a normal kid but you could feel something was brewing underneath. Then, bam, she dives into how she got into The Runaways. It all happened so fast, like a whirlwind. One minute she's just a teenager, the next she's on stage in front of thousands of people.

I spent the whole afternoon on my couch, totally engrossed. I read about the rehearsals, the gigs, the parties. It all sounded so exciting, but also pretty messed up. They were just kids, really, thrown into this crazy world of rock and roll. She talks about the pressure, the drugs, the fights, the whole scene. And let me tell you, it was not glamorous. It's like you are watching the whole thing unfold. There were so many things going on behind the scenes, things you'd never think about.
I kept turning pages, totally hooked. It was like I was right there with her, experiencing everything firsthand. It's crazy to think about how young they all were and all that they had to deal with. It's not all bad, though. There's this sense of camaraderie between the girls in the band, you can see the bond and how they looked out for each other.
The Ending Got Me
- Finally, I got to the end of the book, it was late at night.
- The way she describes the band falling apart, it's pretty heartbreaking. You've been on this whole journey with them, and then it all just crumbles. It was all because of some stupid stuff and childish fights, so sad.
- It leaves you with this feeling of, like, "what could have been?" if things had been different.
But, even though it's a bit of a downer ending, the book is amazing. It's a real, honest look at what it was like to be a part of that scene. It's definitely not just for fans of The Runaways, anyone who's into rock music or just wants a good story should check it out. I'm really glad I picked it up, it gave me a whole new perspective on things.
